Thrissur

Originally known as Thirusivapperoor and previously by its anglicized form Trichur, Thrissur is the cultural capital of Kerala due to its rich history, cultural heritage and archaeological wealth. The Kerala Kalamandalam, the Kerala Sahitya Academy and the Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy are located here. Built around a 65-acre hillock called the Thekkinkadu maidan, Thrissur is also the capital of the eponymous Thrissur district.

Since ancient times, Thrissur has played a significant role in the political and cultural history of south India. The district was a part of the Chera and Sangam empires.

Thrissur's Vadakkunnathan temple is an important temple for Shaivites. As a result, Thrissur has always been a place of religious significance to the Hindus. The Shaktan Thampuran palace, and the Guruvayoor temple are other places to visit for people who like learning about history.

Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary, Thrissur Zoo and the Athirapalli Waterfalls are places that will take you closer to nature.

The Thrissur pooram festival, which is one of the most spectacular festivals of Kerala, is also hosted here.
